Greetings to you from William Campbell College!
Confronted with the problems of homeless children, Bill Campbell decided, some fifteen years ago, to consult with Government, politicians and bureaucrats and offer them an alternative in the provision of accommodation and care for abused, neglected and homeless children.
In 1998 Bill, his wife Dawn, his daughter Donna and son-in-law Wayne decided they would financially underwrite the purchase of a rural property, which would provide care and accommodation to meet the needs of homeless children, as a pro-active measure in the prevention of these same children becoming the street children of the future.
Three years later, in December 2001, the Mayor of the Shoalhaven, Greg Watson, was joined by our Patron, Barbara Holborow, and Garry Rothwell, Director of the Property Industry Foundation, in officially opening the first farm-style cottage on the property.
In January 2009, some 10 years since the purchase of the farming property, the vision Bill held in his heart for a decade was approved in principle by Council. Another seven cottages, (there are currently 2 on the farm) housing six children each, a school dedicated to their holistic education, permaculture, aquaculture, horticulture, agriculture, music, information technology, arts, craft and sport plus an administration building are to be constructed – the commitment to the neglected, abused and forgotten children of our society is now taking shape .
We are excited about the future….for these leaders of tomorrow who will make the world a better place.
