It was with great excitment that the children showed visitors their new chook shed which was opened on 6 September.  The chook shed is another step achieved in the plan of WCC to teach animal husbandry skills to those in our care.  This will also give children an opportunity to collect fresh eggs.

The shed was only made possible by the generous donation of Bunnings, who provided the materials and labour to construct the shed and who will sell the eggs to help feed and maintain the chickens.

WCC has recently completed foster care training with another 7 couples joining our ranks to assist in caring for the large number of children that are coming into the care system.

To enable us to meet the need for these children to live in a stable home we still require more foster carers.  We will shortly be commencing another round of training and would like to hear from anyone interested in applying to become a foster carer.

If you feel you can share your life with a child or young person in need, please contact Suellen on 4237 5566 for an information pack.”

Our Chief Executive Officer, Bill Campbell was given the honour of being awarded the Order of Australia Medal in the 2010 Queen’s Birthday Honours List.  This was in recognition of the wonderful work he has done to support and educate neglected and abused children.

The Investiture Ceremony will be held at Government House, Sydney in August when Bill will be presented with Insignia by Her Excellency the Governor General of NSW, Marie Bashir AC, CVO.

William Campbell College opened its doors to our first students at the beginning of the school year in 2010.  This was another milestone reached for the College.  The school is classified as ‘special assistance’ as the aim is to meet the educational needs of children in out-of-home care with the College who often have learning delays and/or behavioural difficulties making learning extremely challenging for them in the mainstream school system.

Feedback from our teaching staff has been very encouraging with the children having made excellent progress in the first two terms of the year.

In December 2006 William Campbell College opened its first recycle store at the Gainsborough Shops, Meehan Drive, Kiama Downs   It proved to be so popular that we opened a second store in North Street, Nowra in February 2007, which also includes furniture .

We offer  good quality recycled clothes, bric-a-brac, books, manchester and toys.  We aim to make the buyers experience in our store a pleasing one with friendly, helpful staff, clean and ironed clothing and no nasty smells.

Proceeds from the sale of all items go towards providing extra amenities and facilities for children and young people in out-of-home care with William Campbell College.

Come and check us out and find a bargain!

William Campbell College was thrilled to receive full Accreditation by the Office of the Children’s Guardian, from 30 August 2009.

This means that our Agency has passed the rigors of delivery of service and evaluation of the paperwork that is necessary to ensure a strong underpinning of correct documentation for the children and young people in our Agency’s care.

Our Accreditation Celebration was enjoyed in August 2009 by some 60 special guests including the NSW Children’s Guardian and WCC’s Project Officers from the OCG, along with Federal Member for Gilmore, Joanna Gash.

Greetings to you from William Campbell College!

Confronted with the problems of homeless children, Bill Campbell decided, some fifteen years ago, to consult with Government, politicians and bureaucrats and offer them an alternative in the provision of accommodation and care for abused, neglected and homeless children.

In 1998 Bill, his wife Dawn, his daughter Donna and son-in-law Wayne decided they would financially underwrite the purchase of a rural property, which would provide care and accommodation to meet the needs of homeless children, as a pro-active measure in the prevention of these same children becoming the street children of the future.

Three years later, in December 2001, the Mayor of the Shoalhaven, Greg Watson, was joined by our Patron, Barbara Holborow, and Garry Rothwell, Director of the Property Industry Foundation, in officially opening the first farm-style cottage on the property.

In January 2009, some 10 years since the purchase of the farming property, the vision Bill held in his heart for a decade was approved in principle by Council.  Another seven cottages, (there are currently 2 on the farm) housing six children each, a school dedicated to their holistic education, permaculture, aquaculture, horticulture, agriculture, music, information technology, arts, craft and sport plus an administration building  are to be constructed – the commitment to the neglected, abused and forgotten children of our society is now taking shape .

We are excited about the future….for these leaders of tomorrow who will make the world a better place.
